Just Announced shows and such.... HOPSCOTCH ROAD SHOWS!!!

wow... what an extremely cool idea this is! Hi-five greg & grayson!

From the Hopscotch site:

"This spring, Hopscotch is taking it on the road! To celebrate our Hopscotch lineup announcement on Wednesday, April 24, we're bringing shows to fans in six nearby cities. Check the following dates and bills, and join us for an early Hopscotch fix. Each show is $5 at the door, and all the money goes directly to the performers."

I am *REALLY* digging the "all money goes to the performers" part, that is incredibly altruistic and makes me really proud of my scene. awesome you guys, totally awesome!

Just Announced Shows - SUPER DELUXE AWW YISS EDITION - David Byrne in Asheville!!!

Mr. Byrne & St Vincent announced a tour yesterday ...oh. em. gee.

The closest to the triangle they are coming is Asheville (June 15) or Charlotte (June 18) - June 15 is a Saturday, so that's where I'll be, folks. Haven't seen David since the Dec 2008 show at Meymandi for the Everything that Happens will Happen Today album which, by the way, was amazing.

Not sure if this is going to be like, St Vincent does some songs, Byrne does some songs, then THEY do some songs, (*hope*) but either way - this is happening, folks. THIS IS HAPPENING! YAY!!!!

Here is a crap video i shot of the Meymandi show in 2008 of the song "strange overtones"

This show will be my third time seeing THE MAN and if I'm lucky, my third time meeting him, as well.

fyi, in case you didn't know... David Byrne is the 3rd piece in my holy trifecta of musical perfection and holiness. aka, I'm a huge fan. Here is an article i wrote about him/TH last year.

Tickets go on sale Friday here. ($47.00 & $59.50) If anyone knows anything about pre-sales, please contact me ASAP. thanks!

hello you strange and wonderful man, i admire you ruthlessly! thank you for coming to hang out with me!

Just announced shows and such... THE NATIONAL

The National just announced a tour with Dirty Projectors, coming to Red Hat Amphitheater (aka The Walt) on June 10, 2013. The show isn't listed on The National's Official Tour page, but is on Dirty Projectors'... No confirmation on ticket sale dates or* prices; but I think I can confirm for you right now, I'll probably go. I've not been able to see The National live as of yet, and I wanna. not entirely sure why they are touring... There hasn't been a new album since 2010 (High Violet), but I'm not complaining... wiki is saying a new LP is slated for this year, who knows?

*EDIT: tickets on sale March 1 at 10am.

Btw -it is quasi-as-confusing to me that they could sell a venue like the Walt? Are they that popular? Cool?

Here is a song you may know:

YAY!

Just announced shows and such... BAND OF HORSES

Just announced via WKNC: Band of Horses at The Ritz, Wednesday May 8, 2013

I am iffy about this show... tickets don't go on sale until Saturday, Feb 23rd, through Ticketmaster (uuugh) and other venues on this tour, ticket prices are hovering around $40. I mean, it would be cool to see them, but how are they playing a venue like The Ritz? Why not the Cradle or Lincoln? Are they really so popular because of That One Song?? I mean, I really like that one song, but I honestly liked the Cee-Lo cover of the other song better. I'm just saying this would have really cool event potential, especially as I haven't been to a show at the Ritz in a bajillion years and I'm interested to see what the new/old/new again management has done with it, and also that I kinda like these guys.

interesting; check out the wiki article about That One Song and look how much it has been sold out.... daaaaamn, y'all.

here is that song:

Here is Cee-lo's kickass cover of one of their songs:

WKNC is going to be giving away tickets. I would go if someone gave me a ticket. They are a good band and such but I, personally, cannot justify those kinda ticket prices.

synopsis: Boo. this kinda shit is a fan-face-slap.

Just announced shows and such... TWIN SHADOW

Just announced: Twin Shadow is making their (or, his - aka George Lewis Jr.'s) way back to the Triangle by way of the Cat's Cradle on Sunday, June 16. Tickets go on sale to the public 02/12/13, but there is a pre-sale via Topspin when you buy the digital album (I cannot confirm this, because i did not - anyone?) and you can buy tickets as of today.

He is splitting the bill with Elliphant - who i don't know so well, but what I'm hearing so far, i'm digging.

The tour is still in support of the last album, confess, but according to Pitchfork it has a theme: "Like his previous tours surrounding the record, this trip will have a theme: 'True Story.' On each date, either Lewis himself or his father will tell the audience a story. 'A gem from the depths of my father's life and a stone from the recent corners of mine,' Lewis wrote in a statement, 'tales retold from lovers and friends.'"

Friends of Hopscotch may recall seeing Twin Shadow in Hopscotch 2011 when he blew it up at Lincoln Theater on Friday night... I got a moment after the raging dance-party-crowd-surf extravaganza and before The Foreign Exchange took the stage to actually get a pic and setlist signed from Mr. Lewis. Opinion: Very cool guy, very excellent show. I'm looking forward to this one and hope Chapel Hill can live up to my expectations!

Here is a clip from the Hopscotch show at Lincoln, 2011:

Here is a picture of me with the man after the show:

stop looking so thrilled, twin shadow.

at this point, many friends who were not so into the hip-hop disappeared so I was running solo the rest of this night and got down and dirty w/ foreign exchange & about 200 people I did not know until it was afterparty time... this was one of my favorite Hopscotch nights ever, btw.

And here is my final recommendation: come have a dance party with me & twin shadow. holler.
